Petit Dog

Petit Dog (プチドッグ, puchidoggu) is a Tomy line based on the Nintendogs video game developed by Nintendo. The Nintendogs wiki states that Tomy acquired the license to create merchandise based on the game in late 2007, but this is currently unconfirmed for the Petit Dogs. However, as it contains the takaratomy website on its box, it must have been after the 2006 merger of Tomy and Takara.

Rather than the MicroPets or MicroPets Puppies, they were remote-controlled like the Microids. They use the same bodies as the MicroPets, with the only difference being the heads, and have 2002 marked on their undersides. The dachshund's tail is at a lower angle than the other two in the set, as it is using the MicroPets dog mold, whereas Series 7's dogs, like that used for the Shiba Inu and Chihuahua Petit Dogs, used the cat mold which had a more upright tail.

Petit Dog requires two LR44 batteries each for the Dog and the Remote. The instruction leaflet had an error, and a separate piece of paper is included in the box to correct the mistake regarding the "Action Button". The error will be posted once full images of the instructions and leaflet are provided.

The line consisted of a Shiba Inu (柴), a Miniature Dachshund (ミニチュアダックスフント), and a Chihuahua (チワワ). The packaging for the three variants were color coded to match the game covers, brown for Dachshund, blue for Chihuahua and green for Shiba Inu. Outside Japan, the green cover was used for Labrador and Friends, so no Labrador Petit Dog was created.

The Petit Dogs had a phone app link that could be used to control them (http://www.t2ie.com/toy/pd.cgi), but it was not archived.

The reuse of old stock could explain why a black dachshund was created rather than a brown one, as it would allow the reuse of Dach's body colors. The Shiba Inu in the set also closely resembles the MicroPet Shiba, though that is less unusual, as it is a typical Shiba Inu fur pattern. The MicroPet Shiba's tail ball is also white, whereas it is the same color as the rest of the fur on the Shiba Inu Petit Dog.
